A letter to a future grandchild - with a difference

When you think of your grandchildren, it's more than likely that you know the mother and father of the child, and can begin to imagine which features of each the new baby will have. You'll have an approximate birthdate, and maybe even knowledge of which sex the child is. It's pretty sure you'll know what colour skin your grandchild will have, and the professions of at least one of the parents, right?

That's why this letter to a future grandchild, published in the Guardian a few days ago, made us sit up and pay attention.

Written with love by a Grandad to his future adopted grandchild, it's well worth a read. And well worth remembering that adopted babies come into the whole family, not just the lives of their new parents...
